The Goddess Laksmi at Rest

This is just a pencil sketch. I did another card (below) for Valentine's Day because Laksmi* is the Goddess of Love and Luck. It is more the standard version with the good luck elephants and roses, etc. But I grew so attached to her by reading about her and by what I already knew that I had a deep longing to be closer to her by drawing her in some ordinary setting. Couldn't sleep last night and this is what happened, along with the little song beside her: She is happy. She is content. She is looking at birds. I hear it as a waltz.

I'm planning a painting in acrylics. Or watercolor. Or both. Half price sale at Wet Paint a few weeks ago and I bought some Iridescent Gold acrylic; Laksmi's complexion is said to be golden.

*pronounced "Lakshmi" -- the s is sh as in "Budapesht".

Golden skin to remind us of the way she attracts abundance. Beautiful Nancy!

I love Laksmi too! I agree, that she does seem to be quiet, serene, not working too hard to attract the good stuff. Lovely painting and blog Nancy!
